Our perception of the sun is of a roaring loud object; however, our image of the sun is that of a magnificent silence broken occasionally by the sound of birds.
What threads the works in THE LOUDER THE SUN is exactly such an internal discrepancy of perception. We first invite, then deny, entrance to our deeper ideas. We intentionally create with multiple layers of understanding embedded in our imagery--we hide things. We hide the mundane and the sacred. We hide an understanding of intimacy next to the skeleton from the family closet.
Our hiding has purpose; it leads to an inevitable juncture--a place where the perception of the work differs from the intention. We recognize this feral and dangerous territory is full of frailty yet it delivers us to a region of discovery that is unbelievably bright, clear, and personal. For us, hiding is more like letting go. It requires a trust rather than reluctance or fear.
What we are building the heart knows how to eat but the mind has difficulty in determining where to bite. This is a truth important to us. Constructed in this malevolent friction is the art. This friction leads to fire, which ignites to become louder and brighter than the sun.
